This was an illustration project where I was tasked with designing a set of playing cards themed after anything of my choice. I went with a NORSE MYTHOLOGY theme. I incorporated many Norse design elements such as patterns that are commonly seen in Norse artwork throughout history. The face cards and the box for the cards were all designed with these motifs in mind.
The designs of the face cards were based off the King, Queen, and other figures in Norse Mythology. The three main face cards each have an abstract design which represents something important related to the figure.
Odin - Twin Ravens that act as his messengers, as well as his spear.
Freyja - Root of a tree to represent her connection to nature. She also carries a staff.
Thor - Mjolnir, which is the hammer of Thor, as well as his lightning bolts.
